You can probably guess some of the Wild Waste’s story from its name alone. Rising from the wasteland of what was once a vast empire, the Wild Waste is a region of desert and canyons with ancient ruins scattered throughout, made up of an unorganized collection of small settlements and trading posts.
Outlaws, smugglers, and misfits make up most of the local population, calling themselves Wasters. The Wasters are gunslinger mages who practice a type of magic called Ammomancy, a system of ballistic magic in which enchanted firearms shoot bullets filled with magical potions.
The Wild Waste runs on hexoline, or Juice as it’s known to the Wasters, a magical liquid that’s found in underground mines. Hexoline is the most valuable resource in the region, powering weapons and vehicles. Legend has it that when the Power Prism meteor hit the land it traveled down below the surface eventually hitting the hexoline deposits and endowing the valuable liquid with magical properties.
When you visit the Wild Waste, you’ll have to watch out for Scrappers, scavengers that go days without food or water, living on hexoline alone, and looking to find anything to steal and pick clean.
Although the Wild Waste is a place for loners, some Wasters get lucky and form their own ragtag family. That’s what happened to Scarlet. She ran away from her father, Duke, a warlord with a taste for human experimentation. Scarlet discovered Duke wanted to “upgrade” her but was able to escape with her friend Ace. Along the way, they found Rusty, an artificial intelligence robot that Scarlet was able to put back together after finding him in a scrap heap. Rusty has a fierce loyalty to his new found family, especially Scarlet who was the one who gave him life again. Then they met Bowie, a lone gunwoman who is battling with the guilt of losing her partner and also trying to avoid a potential love triangle with Ace and Scarlet.
Also in the Wild Waste is Mack, the leader of the mining guild, and Deadeye, a mysterious bounty hunter who was brought back from the dead by a relic and given Requiem, his gun that not only kills those he shoots but also traps their souls. There’s also Drifter, who was living peacefully with his family in the Wild Waste until Scrappers killed them. Now he travels the vast desert alone, hunting down any Scrappers he can find. And lastly, Metal Head, a wanted criminal on the loose.
Stay safe out there in the desolate lands of the Wild Waste!
